Writing book reports is a common activity in academic environments. Sometimes this can be bothersome for both teachers and students. On the one hand, teachers may need to deal with a large amount of grades and papers, while on the other, students may not know well what the teacher expects them to do.
Book Reporter can ease the process of writing, grading and managing book reports. It combines both roles: student and teacher, in a single application. So, for the student, it will work as a space where he can publish his reports according to given structure and requirements. As for the teachers, they will be able to check the students’ work and provide grades for them.
The interface looks old-fashioned and the background is really ugly and incoherent with the educational purpose of the application. However, it is easy to use as there are appropriate menu items that identify each role. In this respect, students will be able to enter new reports or edit old ones while teachers will be able to browse and grade book reports. In addition, teachers will be in charge of some administrative tasks, such as setting passwords and printing different data.
In my opinion, the whole idea of this program is obsolete because it works as an unconnected desktop application. Thus, it does not take into account the potential of networks in education. I would have been better if this program worked as a web application, available from any place, even from the students’ homes.
